I was watching a show the other day and the host said , “Not liking pizza is unAmerican”. Boy is that the truth! We might not be friends if you don’t like pizza. I could eat pizza every day. I needed to find a healthier alternative to satisfy my pizza cravings. From that was born my obsession for upside down pizza. It’s a personal pizza baked in individual servings for portion control. After all, we binge on pizza because the box isn’t empty yet. One of the best things about this pizza is that everyone gets their favorite kind. No picking through the pizza for the mushrooms. I hope you will find this recipe a good fix for the days you are feeling American and you want pizza. 🇮🇹🇺🇸
UpsideDownPizza Any toppings you like on pizza will work. Everybody will build their own.
Part Skim Mozzarella Cheese
Pizza Crust Mix ( I use the pouches you mix with water. You can also use the pizza crust in a tube. Whatever crust you have available works. )
Preheat oven to 450
Spray individual ovenware with cooking spray, sprinkle 10 grams of cheese on the bottom of the pan, layer with your favorite ingredients, top with sauce and about 20 grams of mozzarella cheese. Roll your pizza crust thin and cut a circle big enough to cover the top of the baking dish. Place the dough on top of your ingredients and press around the inside slightly to seal. Bake about 10 minutes or until the crust is done. Invert on a serving dish and enjoy! Be mindful of the toppings that are not vegetables. A little pepperoni and cheese really goes a long way. If you can weigh your cheese that will be great. I always find I get a larger portion with a food scale than a measuring cups.
Note for those following Weight Watchers – My pizza has onions, peppers, mushrooms, 8 turkey pepperonis , 1/4 cup pizza sauce, 31 grams of lowfat mozzarella cheese and 1/2 a serving of pizza crust. ( From a pouch of pizza dough mix) It calculates to 6SP in the recipe builder. Not bad for a pizza fix.
